THE BRIEF
SmartWater’s Forensic Spray System required a signalling element to notify an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) once the system has been activated in error – to ensure it is restored correctly ahead of any potential activation.
THE PRODUCT
The system is typically used in business premises to deter robberies and out-of-hours burglaries. Upon activation, the SmartWater® Forensic Spray System sprays intruders with an invisible liquid, marking their skin and clothing. The liquid can only be seen under UV light, remaining on skin for weeks and indefinitely on clothing. It can be used to link a criminal to a particular crime scene, remaining detectable long after the crime has been committed.
SmartWater selected DualCom DigiAir – the next generation wireless digital communicator with zero call costs. Once the SmartWater system has been triggered, the DigiAir sends a signal quickly and securely to the ARC. The notification includes information about when this has been set off – and whether this was due to an intruder or due to a user error. This information ensures that the system can be correctly reset. DigiAir also has UDL capabilities – allowing for Remote Servicing & Diagnostics to check the system’s status.
DigiAir utilises all mobile networks via CSL’s WorldSIM, instead of a telephone line, to signal an alarm from the protected premises to the ARC. It is designed for low to medium risk premises and is an ideal upgrade for wired digital communicators as it eliminates call costs and phone charges. Both SmartWater and CSL have ‘Secured by Design’ approval and are now providing a joint solution that includes two products that have been awarded Police Preferred status after passing stringent independent standards and tests nominated by the Police service.
THE ROLLOUT & BENEFITS
Around 40 DigiAirs have already been installed within SmartWater’s Forensic Spray System’s across the UK, with more continuing to be rolled out in the next few months. CSL and SmartWater are now building a long-term partnership following a smooth rollout process. The two companies are now exploring additional opportunities to combine their expertise to provide further solutions to the Security sector.
