CPD is an investment in yourself. It’s a career-long process of improvement, keeping your skills and knowledge up to date through development activities and then recording and reflecting on what you have gained or achieved.
All IOSH members can use our CPD programme, which sits in our new and enhanced Blueprint tool.
CPD is mandatory for all Chartered Fellows, Chartered, Graduate and Technical Members, whose professional status depends on an up-to-date record. But we recommend all members take advantage of our CPD framework to keep their skills and knowledge fit-for-purpose and set them apart from other occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals.
To get the most from CPD, your learning activities should address your individual needs.
IOSH's competency framework is designed to build capability across our profession. We released this updated version in 2019, following extensive research and consultation with occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals, employers and other stakeholders.
It reflects the significant changes that have occurred in the workplace over the last decade. Today’s OSH professionals need a broader range of skills, knowledge and behaviours to influence and drive change. This is more important than ever now, as economies recover from the global pandemic.
The competency framework includes 69 competencies across three categories: technical, core and behavioural. It is not a ‘one size fits all’ tool - the range and level of competencies required for each individual role will vary and depend on factors such as the sector, the individual’s seniority or career stage and the size of organisation.
Ethical practice is extremely important in ensuring public trust and upholding the reputation of our profession.
The new IOSH Ethical Practice in OSH e-learning and assessment provides up-to-date content on ethical considerations that affect organisations and the health and safety profession in the widest sense.
What is ethical practice? Ethical practice is about:
- trust and integrity
IOSH's Future Leaders Community is over 7,700 strong and growing. Lead by a Steering Group of volunteers, the Community supports and empowers new and aspiring OSH professionals. This includes student members, those who are under 36 years or with 5 years or less OSH experience.
The Steering Group generate engaging content throughout the year to support career progression and continuing professional development (CPD). Including sharing advice and personal experiences, industry interviews, podcasts and much more. Take a look at iosh.com/flc for more information.
