Vigitron, a leading global manufacturer of analog and IP transmission solutions, introduces their Vi2804P extended distance Layer 2 switch with IEEE802.3af and high power IEEE802.3at PoE.

“Megapixel cameras require managed traffic and many newer cameras require .at PoE power”, stated Neil Heller, Vigitron’s Vice President of Business Development. “With the Vi2804P, Vigitron has introduced a solution that addresses both requirements. The Vi2804P can provide full 802.3af or at power on each port with no power sharing assuring that maximum power rating are maintained. As a layer 2 network switch the Vi2804P eliminates the potentials of traffic collisions resulting in lost video and data. Further our use of fixed network management assures network security is maintained while eliminating the need for complex switch set ups.”

By providing extended Ethernet over both UTP and Coax, the Vi2804P can be placed at a remote location up to 5,000 ft. (1,515 meters) from a control room. Each of the 4 ports can be used with Vigitron’s Vi2301 to provide total extended data transmission of approximately 8,000 feet (2,424 meters) with no power required at the camera site for transceivers and cameras. Using multiple Vi2804Ps, systems can be configured as drop and insert allowing for multiple cameras at multiple locations to connect to the control room over a single cable path. Using the Vi0015 combiner cable, two ports can be combined to provide output power of 60 watts.

The use of a four channel network switch meets the requirements of many applications where up to four cameras are routed to a single gathering point. The ability to transmit all four cameras over long distance using a single coax or Ethernet UTP cable run greatly reduces installation costs.

Based in San Diego, with sales offices in the United States and UK, Vigitron has built its reputation on cost-saving technology which enables clients to use new and existing coax or UTP copper infrastructure with either analog or IP CCTV systems at extended distances. Vigitron was nominated as the finalist for Best Communications Product of the Year Award at IFSEC 2011. With a history of over 15 years, Vigitron continues to provide new and innovative approaches to CCTV transmission.
