Valens Chosen as a 2013 Red Herring Top 100 Europe Award Winner

28 Apr 2013

HOD HASHARON, Israel – April 17, 2013 – Valens, the developer of HDBaseT technology, today joins an elite category of companies that have won Red Herring’s Top 100 Europe award, a mark of distinction for identifying promising new companies and entrepreneurs. Red Herring’s editors were among the first to recognize that companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Skype, Salesforce.com, YouTube, and eBay would change the way we live and work.

“Selecting startups that show the most potential for disruption and growth is never easy,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “We looked at hundreds and hundreds of candidates from all across the continent, and after much thought and debate, narrowed the list down to the Top 100 Winners. Each year, the competition gets tougher but we believe Valens demonstrates the vision, drive and innovation that define a Red Herring winner.”

Founded in 2006, Valens is a leading provider of semiconductor products for the distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content. Just three years later, Valens launched VS100 chipset and unveiled the HDBaseT technology, which enables connectivity between HD video sources and remote displays through a single 100m/328ft CAT5e/6 cable. HDBaseT delivers uncompressed high definition video, audio, Internet, control signals and up to 100 watts of power.

Presently, Valens owns more than 40 industry recognized patents, its customers include the world’s leading pro AV and consumer electronics manufacturers, and there are hundreds of HDBaseT enabled products, empowered by Valens chipset.

Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated the companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technological innovation, management quality, overall business strategy and market penetration. This assessment was complemented by a review of the track records and standings of similar startups in the same verticals, allowing Red Herring to see past the “buzz” and make the list a valuable instrument of discovery and advocacy for the most promising new business models in Europe.

“Receiving the Red Herring Europe Top 100 Award validates our on-going efforts to re-define the future of multimedia transmission and data communication in the professional and consumer electronics industries,” said Dror Jerushalmi, CEO of Valens. “In a very short time, Valens HDBaseT technology has established itself as the new global standard for digital connectivity.”

Valens is also a co-founder of the HDBaseT Alliance, with LG Electronics, Samsung and Sony Pictures, a cross-industry consortium working to promote and standardize HDBaseT technology.
