UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), will show its extended range of network transmission switches at the upcoming International Fire and Security Exhibition and Conference (IFSEC), stand G1300, Hall S14. Its innovative product line will help security installers deliver high-performance Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) transmission and efficient Power over Ethernet (PoE) distributed power solutions for all Internet protocol (IP) video and security projects. The extended line includes 15 new IFS network switches and media converters that bring high-speed GigE performance, high-power PoE options and innovative diagnostic tools to the installation and maintenance of commercial networked IP video systems.
Among the new offerings is the value-priced ES series of unmanaged switches, providing plug-and-play installation along with a robust internal power supply providing up to 15.4W of PoE on four of the eight available ports. Available in either fast Ethernet or GigE versions, these switches are ideal for small, stand-alone IP video installations. In addition, a 10-port GigE PoE+ managed switch provides high-performance gigabit transmission, up to 30W of power per port and extensive built-in monitoring and diagnostic tools that save dealers and end users time and money. The unit's innovative alive-checking feature monitors and automatically power-cycles locked-up IP cameras or other powered devices. The switch can also send an email notification of these events to a network administrator or integrator to assess potential service or replacement of the IP camera. And the new IFS power-over-coax (PoC) media converters support combined IP video and power transmission over existing coaxial cable, eliminating the need for power at the remote camera location. They have a wide temperature operation range, enabling use in harsh environments such as parking garages and warehouses. "By extending our range of network transmission switches, we are helping system engineers by delivering high-performance GigE transmission and efficient PoE-distributed power solutions to end-user networks," said Kevin Swann, Country Manager, Fire & Security UK, UTC Building & Industrial Systems. "These new switches will make systems at all levels easier to install and reduce troubleshooting time and labour."
