Student@Home has chosen Skyguard’s MySOS personal safety device to protect its lone workers and London office based staff, as part of an ongoing roll-out whilst the company expands nationwide.

As a social business, Student@Home employs IT students to provide technology support and training to home computer users and small businesses. Originating in Holland, where the company employs over 260 students, the innovative concept was brought to the UK earlier this year.

UK Managing Director, Kelly Klein, was acutely aware of the potential risks faced by her staff, having attended the same school as Suzy Lamplugh – an estate agent who disappeared after a visiting a client in 1986. This tragic event resonated with Kelly, who from the outset wanted the safety and well-being of her staff to be a top priority for the business.

After researching all of the personal safety alarms available on the market and meeting numerous suppliers, Kelly decided Skyguard’s MySOS provided the best solution for her staff and began a trial of five devices. “Skyguard stood out from the rest by offering a high quality alarm, with an exceptional service, at an affordable price”, says Kelly Klein. The MySOS device and contract SIM card are provided free of charge when customers subscribe to Skyguard’s service.

Having trialled the devices for one month, feedback from all the staff using the MySOS was resoundingly positive. “The MySOS alarms provide my staff with reassurance that they are never alone - help is there whenever they needed it, at the touch of a button. The alarms really give them confidence whilst they are doing their job”, Kelly concluded. As the service is available 24/7, the staff have been told they can use the alarms even when they are not on a job and many staff do.

The success of the trial has led Kelly to implement the solution to all 55 staff in London, with further devices scheduled for national roll-out as the company achieves its ambitious expansion plans.

Skyguard's Incident Management Centre

All of Skyguard’s state-of-the-art personal safety devices link to our own purpose built UK based, 24/7 Incident Management Centre certified to the highest lone working industry standards (BS 8484, BS 5979 Category II). At the core of Skyguard’s personal safety service is our state-of-the-art, UK based, 24/7 Incident Management Centre (IMC). Here our highly-trained and experienced controllers respond to lone worker alarms and manage life-threatening emergencies on a daily basis. They summon the emergency services and our own National Response Service every day on behalf of our customers. Yet only a fraction of these have proved to be false alarms due to their rigorous training and the procedures they follow.

On behalf of our police customers alone, our IMC has protected an estimated 6,000 victims of domestic abuse, kidnapping and those on witness protection programmes. Many of these have led to arrests and successful prosecutions in court, facilitated by our audio recordings of incidents and the speed of police response that our service provided.

Our IMC became the first in the UK to be certified to the new Lone Worker Monitoring Service standard: BS 8484, which included the highest standard for Alarm Receiving Centres: BS 5979 (Category II).
