Birmingham (IFSEC stand 4/J10), 13 May 2013: Today at IFSEC 2013, Sony demonstrated its intention to lead the video security market by expanding its IPELA ENGINE camera range with 14 new models including the highest performing rapid dome camera in the industry, which harnesses the new IPELA ENGINE PRO technology. Sony also announced a new small entry-level security camera and a new scalable management recording solution.

IPELA Engine PRO W Series Cameras

Sony’s W Series will feature its latest IPELA ENGINE technology: IPELA ENGINE PRO. Designed for critical surveillance environments, the W Series is the world’s first full HD camera to feature 130db of wide dynamic range to deliver the clearest picture of any full HD camera in the market, even in strong backlit environments.

IPELA ENGINE PRO delivers 60fps (frames per second), double the number of frames when compared with conventional IP cameras. In doubling the frame rate to 60fps an operator has more detail to analyse when stepping frame by frame through recorded video. This could be the difference between identifying a vehicle licence plate or not.

IPELA ENGINE PRO also delivers two solutions designed for outdoor surveillance, image stabiliser and defog mode. Image stabiliser is designed to reduce the effect of vibration in severe weather conditions such as strong wind and when installed near roads or bridges. Defog mode is an image enhancement technology which increases the clarity of the image in fog or smog.

The first two cameras to be introduced into the W Series include the SNC-WR632 for outdoor use and the SNC-WR630 for indoor use. Both are rapid dome, continuous 360° PTZ cameras and boast the industry’s fastest pan speed of 700°/s, enabling the operator to quickly pan to areas of interest in a single quick motion.

Both the SNC-WR632 and SNC-WR630 support true day and night functionality for clearer video in low light conditions as well as the latest version of View-DR for wide dynamic range compensation. With 360° endless pan, they are robustly built for constant pan/tilt/zoom movements.

With such a strong feature set, the W Series featuring IPELA ENGINE PRO is ideal for mission-critical and wide area surveillance applications such as airports, stadiums and casinos as well as for city and perimeter surveillance.

IPELA Engine EX E and V Series Cameras

This new series brings the proven benefits of IPELA ENGINE technology to a range of entry-to-mid level applications including retail, education and banking. Available in both HD and full HD resolution, the cameras are powerful and reliable security tools. Each member of the IPELA ENGINE EX E Series incorporates improvements in core camera functionality to provide optimal image quality even in the most challenging security scenarios. It combines with the latest advances in View-DR technology to deliver detail even when imaging brightly backlit figures. Noise reduction has been enhanced and low light sensitivity is improved at more than twice the rate of Sony’s previous generation of cameras. In addition, all the new models incorporate image stabilisation to reduce camera shake caused by wind and vibrations on mounting platforms. Camera shake blurs images and washes out details so the new feature will deliver excellent images in varying weather conditions.

The 12 new cameras in the EX E Series offer a comprehensive line-up of four fixed, two minidome, two vandal-proof minidome and two outdoor ruggedised minidome models:

  • SNC-EB600, SNC-EB600B, SNC-EB630 and SNC-EB630B fixed cameras
  • SNC-EM600  and  SNC-EM630 minidome cameras
  • SNC-EM601 and  SNC-EM631 vandal-proof minidome cameras
  • SNC-EM602R and SNC-EM632R outdoor, ruggedised minidome cameras

The cameras are designed to be used for everyday video surveillance and deliver high performance, unprecedented flexibility and cost-efficiency. Two new V-Series cameras, the outdoor, ruggedised SNC-VM602R and SNC-VM632R will expand the mid-level and high end models currently available.

C Series Camera

Sony has also introduced a small and affordable wireless camera, the SNC-CX600W. Created specifically for small businesses, retail stores, restaurants, hotels and residences, the camera comes with HD (720p) and wide angle view (120°) and can be either wireless or wired across dual networks – it also has edge storage with micro-SD. The camera features a passive infrared (PIR) sensor for detecting movement in the dark and a white LED light for illuminating the scene automatically when motion is detected or when activated by the user. The camera also supports two-way audio with a built-in microphone and speaker and comes with some of Sony’s analytics features including motion detection and DEPA.

Scalable Management Software

Sony has also announced its new scalable management software solution. The Windows OS-based server software is designed to seamlessly integrate with Sony network surveillance recorders (NSR) and RealShot Manager Advanced (RSM) software to deliver a turnkey surveillance solution.  This meets the needs of customers seeking a single, scalable one-brand solution to migrate from standalone/local recording systems. The management software’s scalability makes this all-in-one surveillance package ideal for businesses with multiple locations such as banks, or retail operations, medical facilities and school districts. As these organisations grow, the system is designed to expand with them.

The solution is capable of managing a maximum of 1,000 recorders* which simplifies large NSR/RSM systems. Previously, this had to be managed by two separate systems due to the number of camera support limitations. It contains a SMS administrative toolset to reduce the workload for management. Administrators do not have to master a complicated set of commands to monitor and maintain the system. While the health-check service keeps a watch on core functions including recorder performance status, recording errors, network status, or video loss.
