ReSet your thinking!

9 May 2018

Concerned by a high risk of false activations? Fed up of replacing sensitive broken glass from your call points? Require a solution for both indoor and outdoor use? Then ReSet your thinking with Safety Technology International! With an extensive range of resettable call points, multi-purpose push buttons and switches, STI offers a global solution to your problems.

The ReSet Call Point mimics the feel of breaking glass without the need to replace broken parts, offering the benefits and environmental advantages of a resettable operating element. The appearance of real glass maintains operator deterrence and a visible warning flag confirms activation, with a key allowing the unit to be quickly and easily reset.

Offering solutions to both indoor and outdoor challenges, the Waterproof ReSet Call Points provides the same true broken glass feel but with IP67 certification providing protection for wash-down areas and harsh environments.

With the unique range continuously evolving the latest addition to the ReSet Call Point line offers a completely global solution. The UL listed Global ReSet also simulates break glass activation with no broken parts. Versatile mounting plate’s fits to US, European, double-gang and single-gang mounting boxes, allowing for quick and easy installation. When activated, the indicator drops into view and is simply reset with provided key for immediate re-use.

The highly versatile indoor and outdoor push buttons within the StopperSwitch series from STI have undergone some exciting changes in 2017.

Aesthetically appealing the push buttons combine a unique design with quality and value. The low/high voltage push buttons can fit any standard UK-type switch socket box and are quick and easy to install with three different types available; key-to-reset, momentary and pneumatic.

Indoor models are supplied as a dual mount, designed to fit either flush or surface onsite installations. Conforming up to IP67, outdoor models are supplied with a weatherproof back box making them ideal for use on oil rigs, ships and factories.

Further options have been introduced which now include a ‘Standard Function Marking’ label sheet with 12 prevalent operating labels for a variety of uses, ready for self-assembly. Custom label is also available upon request.

The option to change the button and housing colour broadens the number of applications, making it a truly versatile product. For example; a white housing with a green button has been specially designed as a ‘Press to Exit’ button.

If you suffer from false or accidental activations it is advisable to protect your StopperSwitches with a STI protective cover. There are numerous models in the range; basic models will protect from accidental activations, and advanced models will prevent false alarms caused by malicious activation or extreme weather conditions.

Models are available with or without sounder alarms which provide additional protection to your devices and further reduces the chances of malicious false alarms. Covers will prevent damage to your devices and allow them to remain operable for use in an emergency. The Universal Stopper is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications and could prove invaluable if you have a problem with false alarms or weather damage to your devices.

The StopperStation series have been extremely successful in the USA and STI recently announced the exciting news that the buttons can now fit a standard UK-type socket box, with a surface mounting back box also available.

The popularity of the ADA compliant StopperStations arises from a unique, patented design that drastically prevents accidental activations. The robust appearance makes them ideal for use in an industrial setting and STI covers can also be fitted to add an extra level of protection.

False fire alarms on the rise: Do you require a solution?

More than 3,000 false fire alarms were maliciously triggered across England in 2017/18 – disrupting schools and businesses, placing unnecessary strain on our emergency services and reducing the confidence the general public have in alarms.

The latest Home Office figures reveal that; there were a total of 3,029 false alarms caused by a ‘malicious activation of fire call point/alarm’ in England for the period July 1 2017 to June 30 2018, an increase of 160 on the previous year, and the highest figure seen for over 5 years.

Accidental activations also saw an increase during this period; 14,199 false fire alarms were recorded due to a manual call point being ‘accidentally or carelessly’ set off, a significant increase of 472 false alarms and again the highest number since 2012.

A further 782 false alarms were recorded due to damage to the apparatus for the year ending June 2018, up from 750 on the previous year.

Continuing to be the largest incident type, false fire alarms accounted for 41 per cent of the incidents attended by Fire and Rescue Services in England – fires accounted for just 29 per cent.
