BRIDGING THE SAFETY GAP WITH TEMPORARY FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS
When a permanent fire safety alarm system fails, a temporary solution must be sourced quickly to prevent a gap in protection while it is being fixed or replaced.
Challenging scenarios are becoming more common for building owners. Whether that is damage to a permanent fire alarm system that leaves it in need of repair, or unexpected malfunctions that mean a replacement is necessary.
A temporary system is a quick solution that will afford building owners precious time and peace of mind while any issues are being resolved with the permanent system. This is important as repairs or replacements are not always immediate due to time, financial, or other logistical constraints.
Here, we take a deeper look at some of the scenarios a wireless fire alarm can add value as a temporary solution.
The New Age Of Insurance Construction Risk: Detecting Fire With Wireless Technology
In the construction sector, the leading cause of financial losses between 2016-2020 was fire – resulting in insurance claims reaching a staggering €11.3bn.With engineering and construction playing a vital role in Europe’s economic recovery amidst COVID-19, the industry can’t afford to not take the risk of fire seriously. What’s more, any fire protection measures must be robust if they are to meet the requirements of insurance providers. Nicolas Lochet, Regional Technical Manager for Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty explains the relationship between fire and insurance for the construction industry. This includes how wireless fire protection solutions can mitigate risk and support insurance cover or claims for construction sites.
The WES3 system comprises manual fire and medical alarm call points that are installed on site in accordance with the project’s Fire Plan. These call points are designed so that the system is interlinked, meaning that all areas receive the same audible and visual alert signal, even if the fire is contained to just one of them. Incorporating heat or smoke detectors into the network provides automatic cover 24/7, ensuring that your construction site is protected even when personnel are not present. The WES system works on a mesh protocol which enables the system to overcome signal obstacles such as steel structures and other signal interferences, therefore offering advanced protection. When coupled with REACT, all relevant personnel will be notified immediately via text message from anywhere, on site or off, if an alarm is activated.
intelliclad underwent rigorous testing with the Fire Protection Association in October 2020.
The test was deemed a huge success by the intelliclad team, with the sensors providing a fast and effective response to the staged fire.
The results represent validation for the product after three years in development.
With more than 2000 high-rise and tens of thousands of medium-rise residential buildings affected across the UK, over one million people are struggling with the financial toll and associated mental health risks this crisis has created.
