Queen Marys University London - Fire compartmentation

Working as a main contractor for the major building contractor, Checkmate Fire was contracted to carry out a passive fire protection survey of the Fire Doors and Compartmentation survey at the John Vane Building.


Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is a public research university and a constituent college of the federal University of London. It dates back to the foundation of London Hospital Medical College in 1785. 
Queen Mary College merged with Westfield College, in 1989 , to form Queen Mary and Westfield College. In 1995 Queen Mary and Westfield College merged with St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College and the London Hospital Medical College to form the School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Its main campus is in the Mile End area of Tower Hamlets, with other campuses in Holborn, Smithfield and Whitechapel. In 2015/16 it had 17,140 students and 4,000 staff. Queen Mary is organised into three faculties – the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry – within which there are 21 academic departments and institutes.

Following this initial work the scope of works expanded to include:
 

 - Fire compartment upgrades to John Vane Building

 - Fire Door Upgrades to John Vane Building

 - Further surveys and upgrade works to 23 subsequent both residential and non-residential Buildings.
