360o multisensor
cameras provide effective HD monitoring of large areas in airports, railway
stations and public squares, negating the need for multiple camera
installations
Axis Communications, the market leader in
network video, has introduced two multisensor panoramic cameras, allowing a
high definition, uninhibited view of large areas that would traditionally
require a large number of separate devices. These latest additions make high
end surveillance more accessible to businesses, reducing maintenance costs plus
allowing for easy installation.
The P3707-PE and Q3708-PVE cameras are designed for large
scale video surveillance in airport terminals, railway and metro stations as
well as city surveillance installations such as public squares. Through utilisation
of Axis’ Zipstream technology, the cameras specialise in assessing details of
interest, making them ideal for perimeter security in critical infrastructure
and industrial sites, university campuses and school halls, or shopping centre
security both indoors and outdoors.
Through the utilisation of multiple sensors
within a single housing, the network camera performs the same role as several
separate devices, allowing an uninhibited view of large areas in high
definition, while remaining an easily installed, cost effective alternative to
larger-scale installations. These devices further utilise Axis’ Zipstream
technology to reduce bandwidth requirements as well as Power over Ethernet,
enabling usage in hard to reach locations such as lampposts or building tops.
“The
new cameras address the market need for fixed, high-resolution panoramic cameras
for superb wide area surveillance. With several cameras in one, they reduce the number
of cameras that need to be mounted, making them a cost-effective solution,”
states Daren Lang, Regional Director of Business Development at Axis Northern
Europe. “AXIS P3707-PE provides a 360° overview, or a combination of overviews
and close-ups in different directions - ideal for use in wide areas, at
intersections of hallways or roads, or from the corners of buildings. With AXIS
Q3708-PVE, you have a high-resolution 180° camera with excellent low light and
wide dynamic range capabilities.”
In order to address the issue of maximum
surveillance from a single point, AXIS P3707-PE comprises four camera heads that can be repositioned
along a circular track to point in the desired viewing direction. Each camera head
can be individually tilted and adjusted to provide a 108° to 54° horizontal
field of view for either wide or zoomed-in views. The camera heads can also be
rotated to support Axis’ Corridor Format for optimal coverage of vertically
oriented scenes, with a specially designed clear cover allows for undistorted views
in all directions. The AXIS P3707-PE supports individually configurable video
streams for each camera head, as well as quad-view streaming, enabling 1080p
resolution videos at 12.5/15 frames per second and 720p videos at full frame
rate.
AXIS
Q3708-PVE offers easy and cost-efficient installation. The camera’s three
lenses are factory-focused, so no focusing is required on site. It has Wide
Dynamic Range - Forensic Capture technology and low light capabilities for excellent
image quality in all lighting conditions. AXIS Q3708-PVE provides 11-megapixel resolution (3x
QuadHD) at 30 frames per second, or 15-megapixel resolution (3x
5MP) at 20 frames per second.

“ Being able to view the footage on our phones in real time and flick between the different cameras in the café is great. We can zoom in on different areas and slow down or speed up the playback.” Jaya Da Costa, Owner of the Pause Cat Café.
“The Axis cameras have proved exactly the right fit for London Underground here at Canary Wharf station. As we move to 24-hour operation on London Underground stations in a few months’ time, reliability and ease of maintenance are all key operational requirements. Axis cameras have met all these needs and I anticipate they will be deployed in other Jubilee Line extension stations as they are upgraded over the next few years.” Dave Perry, Delivery Manager, Station Capital Expenditure, London Underground.
“ Chester Zoo now has a video security platform which is highly reliable, expandable and future-proof. We know that whatever our requirement in terms of security intelligence, video analytics and integration, it’s now possible with our new IP video system. Speed and appropriateness of response to threats is now assured.” Nigel Peers, Security Manager, Chester Zoo.
“Observit offers a turnkey solution that gives you complete control of the entire process, from simple installation to monitoring of the cameras in each bus and the collection of image material. The entire process is covered in a highly functional and quality manner.” Bram Lauwers, Product Manager Digital Services at Nobina.
“Our analogue system was no longer as innovative as it once was; upgrading to HD IP camera technology made complete sense to us as we strive to maintain our status as the leading event facility in Northern Ireland.” Brian Hughes, Group Head of Facilities at The Odyssey Complex.
“Today the new system is only used if there is a security incident. But in the future we expect managers in specialist areas like visual merchandising to access cameras to assess whether agreed store layouts for new lines are being observed and whether these are working for store visitors.” Lee Bingham, Head of IT, Paul Smith.
“Wireless cameras on the front of the buildings have proven to be a huge asset. Following the initial installation, we noticed an individual attaching a scanner to the cash machine. We’d never had this additional vision before and therefore would not have identified this fraudulent activity prior to the installation.” Phil Parker, Venue Operations Manager at Twickenham Stadium.
