Module-R and SystemTwo desks chosen for major Egyptian broadcaster

24 Mar 2014

Custom Consoles desks and monitor display supports have been chosen for installation at the Cairo headquarters of a major Egyptian free-to-air satellite broadcaster. They include a Module-R production control desk with a Media Wall monitorscape, a Module-R sound control desk and three SystemTwo height adjustable edit-suite desks. These form part of a recently completed upgrade to the network’s engineering infrastructure.

A 6.7 metre wide by 1.2 metre front-to-back structure, the production control desk faces a centrally located 4.85 metre wide Custom Consoles Media Wall. Operating positions, from left to right, comprise prompter, producer, graphics, producer, production assistant, lighting and camera control.

Prompter, producer, graphics and production assistant positions are each equipped with standard desktop work surfaces plus a total of seven sloping equipment pods, each with a capacity of 4U. Primary and auxiliary Ross Vision mixers are accommodated in the central section of the desk. A lighting control console is located adjacent to the production assistant position. Camera control panels are set into the desktop at the far right. These are augmented by two rear equipment pods, each with 6U equipment storage capacity.

The Custom Consoles Media Wall supports 46 inch flat-panel display screens mounted as a panorama, plus Genelec loudspeakers. Additional display screens are attached directly to the production control desk via Ergotron adjustable monitor support arms.

An L-shaped Module-R desk was selected for the sound control room. This houses two 32-fader audio mixing consoles comprising a Studer Vista 1 on the left and a Midas Venice F on the right. A 6U desktop equipment pod just right of centre accommodates telephone hybrid and talkback equipment plus a Compact Disc player. Genelec loudspeakers and an adjustable computer display are attached to the rear of the Studer mixer. A large picture monitor is mounted in the central corner of the desk.

Both Module-R desks are finished in oak and have hard-wearing blue marmoleum worksurfaces.

Three 2.2 metre wide Custom Consoles SystemTwo desks were selected for the studio edit suite. Each has a 736 millimetre deep forward worksurface plus a 500 millimetre deep rear shelf. The shelf houses three display screens, two Genelec loudspeakers plus three equipment bays, all with 3U capacity.
