Messila Resort is a deluxe 5-star hotel and spa complex, set within a beautiful 33-acre forest in Doha. This luxury retreat contains 122 bedrooms, 30 villas, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, a fine dining restaurant, luxury spa facilities, and can accommodate up to 2000 building occupants at any time. The spa itself is spread over three storeys and features 22 treatment rooms; it also houses both an indoor and outdoor pool.
There was no question that a site as large and as complex as this, would require the most efficient and reliable fire detection solution available, in order to protect both staff and guests alike.
The Private Engineering Office who were responsible for managing the project, enlisted full-service fire management company, iShield, who were tasked with the fire risk assessment, specification, design and install of the fire detection system. iShield were established in 2009 and are committed to providing high performance security and safety solutions to all of their customers.
Having carefully assessed the project they specified a UL approved fire detection system with PAVA integration; it was also a pre-requisite that the system would be able to provide early indication of a real fire whilst protecting against false alarms. iShield therefore had no hesitation in selecting Hochiki devices due to their high quality and renowned reliability.
Hochiki’s smoke sensor contains a honeycomb structured mesh that has been specifically designed to maximise smoke flow, and improve tolerance against insects, dust and steam. Plus, the smoke sensor, heat sensor and multi-sensor, operate using Hochiki’s robust and reliable open protocol, which contains enhanced algorithms designed to protect against false alarms.
On this occasion 3000 multi-sensors were specified throughout the project; it has been proven that when smoke and heat detection technologies are used in combination it often provides a more accurate and reliable indication of a real fire.
The design also included 100 duct detectors, 11 voice evacuation panels, 1000 speakers, 64 fire telephones and 9 four loop FireNET panels networked together. Voice evacuation is crucial on large complex sites where visitors may be unfamiliar with their surroundings; it helps people understand what is happening and what action they must take in order to safely evacuate the building.
Whilst it was a tremendously complex project, Hochiki technical support helped to ensure that the installation went smoothly and that the project was completed successfully and on time.
The project was tested and handed over to the client in October 2018, all stakeholders involved were extremely satisfied with the final result.
