Malaysia Security Industry Association (PIKM)

Malaysia Security Industry Association, known by its Malay acronym PIKM (Persatuan Industri Keselamatan Malaysia), is a non-governmental organisation registered in 1980 with the Registrar of Societies of Malaysia under the Societies Act 1966.  PIKM is the only organisation recognised by The Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia representing the Private Security Industry with 1,000 security companies providing protection and investigation services licensed under the Private Agencies Act 1971. In total, there are 180,000 security personnel assigned for various protection and investigation services including utilisation of technology. PIKM has been appointed by the Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia through the Department of Skills Development as the Industry Lead Body (ILB) for the Security and Investigation Services Industry. As an ILB, PIKM has a role to:

• Ensuring sufficient skill-based skilled labour resources in the labour market.
• Be a spokesperson for the Security and Investigation Services Industry.
• Become a liaison in giving feedback directly to the government regarding field needs, smart sharing and cost sharing.
• Planning and driving the growth and development of the industry.
• Propose the best mechanism in dignifying TVET.
• Promote the Malaysian Skills Certification System to the industry.

In order to drive the industry forward, PIKM has produced an industry standard, namely PIKM Standards. PIKM Standards are developed as an initiative of PIKM to upgrade the professional standards of the private security services industry in Malaysia, to achieve its vision of "A private security industry committed to improving standards and accepted by the public." PIKM Standards are developed according to Standards & Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) standardisation procedures. The standards are developed through consensus by committees, which consist of experts in the subject matter and relevant stakeholders.
