Kings Security apprentices enter challenge to be best in the country!

27 Apr 2016

A team of nine Kings apprentices have entered this year’s Brathay Apprentice Challenge (supported by the National Apprenticeship Service) – competing nationally (against more than 80 teams) to be crowned the apprentice team of the year 2016.

To win the challenge, the team must first pass the regional heats, by completing work-related challenges, as well as engaging with the local community.  These challenges are put in place to ensure the teams demonstrate skills such as leadership, communication and to also build confidence.

The Kings apprentices involved in the challenge are: Callum Walker (Technical Support), Dylan Waddell (ARC), Harrison Moore (Install), Kieron Jones (Warehouse), Morgan Hall (HR), Nafeesa Suleman (Customer Service), Sophie Hizzett (HR), Steven Jackson (ARC) and Thomas Tordoff (ARC).

The challenges for the regional heats consist of:

  • Engaging with young people from local schools to promote apprenticeships
  • Taking part in Careers Fairs
  • Hosting a Business Breakfast Session to inform new employers of the benefits of hiring an apprentice
  • Completing a community project – creating a food bank for a local church (see pictures)
  • Working together as a team to complete various tasks including: planning of events, evidence gathering, portfolio completion, etc.
The regional heats deadline is this Friday (29th April), where the apprentices must submit their portfolios, showcasing all the work they have been doing over the last few months.

On the 19th May, eight national finalists will be announced at the House of Commons.  If successful, the team will go onto the national finals, which consists of further awareness raising activities, with the challenge culminating in a logistical and team-building finale at Brathay Trust’s Windermere headquarters.  The 2016 apprentice team of the year will be announced on 15th June.

We wish our apprentices the very best of luck – no matter what the result, you have worked ever so hard over the last few months and are already winners in our eyes!

Please support our apprentices and keep up-to-date with their progress via their very own Twitter account: @KingsConquerors.
