A highly intelligent Syncro AS control panel from Kentec, a life safety control systems manufacturer, integrated with COSMO PSIM+ software is helping to protect visitors, staff and actors at the historic São Luiz Teatro Municipal in Lisbon, Portugal.
The theatre is hugely popular and regularly welcomes high attendances (up to 1,000 people) to hundreds of different shows and performances each year, including plays, concerts and dances.
COSMO PSIM+ software was approached by the theatre to create a centralised, user-friendly management system to control and monitor more than 300 fire detection devices across nine floors, as well as having the ability to open fire escape doors remotely. They selected Kentec’s technology as an integral part of the project.
Syncro AS is a multi-protocol panel that offers maximum choice in system design. Fully scalable and networked to become part of much larger systems if the need arises, it provides a solution for any size of installation.
Fernando Santos, Director of Development and Integration at COSMO PSIM+ software, says: “This project posed some key challenges as the theatre puts on a number of performances and shows that use smoke and/or flames as part of their act. Kentec’s Syncro AS control panel is able to accommodate these challenges, while its large graphical display and ergonomic button and indicator layout make it simple and straightforward to understand.”
All events, alarms and warnings are now reported on a single panel, allowing a faster and more accurate response to each case. To enable remote opening of doors, an I/O controller was used, allowing COSMO PSIM+ to send commands to configured devices.
Kevin Swann, Managing Director at Kentec, says Syncro AS offers a number of benefits: “Our products are designed and manufactured with the installer and end-user in mind. Its enhanced integration capability mean it is a perfect fit for COSMO PSIM+ software and this theatre project. The scalability of Syncro AS offers great flexibility and its clear display and controls make it easy to use for installers and our customers.”
