Defining A Commercial Security System

20 Apr 2022

With an increasing number of break-ins and property damage cases, it is essential to install a commercial security system at your property in order to get comprehensive protection from all threats.

However, with constant technological advancements, commercial security systems are not as simple as earlier. There are multiple individual components of a commercial security system that must work together as a unit to function effectively.

Below, we have listed five components that define a commercial security system.

An up-to-code fire safety system- State and federal governments have made it mandatory to install fire safety systems in commercial properties. Some recent advancements in commercial fire defense systems include:

Faster fire and smoke detection-

Using photoelectric components and hyper-responsive ionization, new fire safety systems can detect smoke or fire much faster than before. Fewer false alarms- Control panels and sensors of newer fire safety systems are better at filtering out false alarms from actual threats. Increased Connectivity with smart devices- You can receive alerts and notifications from your fire safety systems directly on your smartphones with modern fire alarms. Security glass- Glass manufacturers use tempered and laminate glasses to eliminate the possibility of them ‘sharding’ upon breaking. There are several types of security glass, each offering protection against specific threats.

Some common ones include:

Tempered glass- This glass breaks into cubes rather than shards, thus meeting the compliance requirements of most local and state governments. However, it is not very effective at resisting break-ins and bullets.
Laminated glass- Laminated glass usually comprises two pieces of tempered glass with a layer of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) positioned in the middle. Fortunately, if the PVB layer is strong and thick enough, a security glass can withstand crowbars, hammers, and even bullets.
A commercial-grade monitoring solution- Commercial monitoring connects the video surveillance system and alarm sensors to an expert-monitored central system. It will allow the support team to quickly evaluate the emergency and call/notify the respective authorities about the same.

An access control system- An access control system can help you restrict visitor and employee access to your building. It sets rules for the movement of people on the property, strengthening the building’s safety.

Access control systems also add another layer of protection against theft, thus perfectly aligning with video surveillance systems. You can also merge the two systems to develop a strong facial recognition access system.

Surveillance system- Video surveillance is an integral part of a commercial security system. You will rarely come across a business with no surveillance present. Some recent advancements in video surveillance systems include:

Cloud storage- Modern surveillance systems send data to online storage networks, where you can view the footage whenever you want.Live streaming- With a smartphone and an internet connection, you can now live stream video footage from any part of the world. You will also get alerts if there is any motion at the property at odd hours of the night or during off-days.High-tech cameras- Modern surveillance cameras have wider lenses and come with night vision. They also offer HD streaming.
