Curious about Inner Range?

29 Apr 2019

Access control manufacturer Inner Range is hitting the road – and airports – a lot this year by exhibiting at a string of security trade shows across the UK and abroad. General Manager Tim Northwood blogs about why there’s no substitute for face-to-face conversations and tangible tinkering with technology.

We’re certainly putting the miles in this year when it comes to showing off our products at trade shows. We’ve already exhibited at Intersec for the first time, where our systems were very well received in the Middle East. And a longstanding partner of ours, STA Plus, has showcased our intelligent access control system, Integriti, at Securika Moscow. STA Plus has been an approved Inner Range partner for more than 12 years providing sales and technical support for Inner Range in Russia so they are well-placed to talk about our products to the Russian Federation market.

UK events

Back on home ground our team has already attended the Security TWENTY event in Birmingham and we have about ten more events to go before the year is out. We’ll be taking in many more Security TWENTY venues, The Security Event in Birmingham in April, IFSEC International in June, the new SiX event in Manchester in November and we finish up with the International Security Expo in London in December.

Events versus internet

Each event requires thought, planning and a ton of practical logistics that usually involve a last-minute dash to PC World for some part that’s not working quite as it should.

What’s more, the internet is a great place to find reams of information about our access control systems from the comfort of your own office or home.

But – if you’re coming to one of these events and you’re curious about Inner Range products and how we design and manufacture them, come and see us in person.

Getting to know you

There’s simply no substitute for meeting with existing and prospective clients face-to-face to find out exactly what their security needs and challenges are. We can talk through the variety of solutions Inner Range access control systems can offer, pausing to explain particular elements or answer questions immediately. We can cover the ground of a plethora of emails – often delayed by time-zones – in a matter of minutes.

Our clients love our customer service and that starts with treating our clients as people first and foremost. We never judge a book by its cover, so whether you’re so youthful-looking we think you must be on work experience, or you’re clearly military top brass, we’ll give you our time and attention just the same. If you’re interested in us, we’re interested in you.

Ultimately, while we hope you’ll find what you need on our website, we’re inviting all security event-goers to seek us out and let us introduce ourselves. We can talk you through anything and everything you want to know. We can also make you a coffee, something our website definitely can’t.

Hands-on demonstrations

Another benefit to events is that we can provide practical demonstrations of how our access control systems work and the sorts of tasks – and combinations of tasks – they can manage.

Delegates can try them out for themselves too. We usually have a member of our technical support team on hand to deal with detailed questions.

Integrated access control systems clearly require some budget and we understand people want to tinker with the technology first and see for themselves how things are configured and exactly what they can do.

Case Study: UK Property Development

Task

A UK property development company purchased a seven storey commercial building in Central London for redevelopment into luxury apartments. Targeting affluent buyers working in the financial district, the planning team was aware that the safety and security features of the building would be of high importance to their buyers, and if systems were not to a high standard it could affect sales or property prices.

In addition, there were a number of competitive development sites in the vicinity that would also be attractive to their clientele.  Therefore, the property developer was interested in offering innovative building management technology that would appeal to their clients’ lifestyles and give their apartments the buying-edge over the competition.

Action

Integriti was identified as the ideal system to fulfil the property developer’s security and building management technology needs.    Alongside standard security systems capabilities such as smart card access control, panic button integration, intruder audit reporting and parking management, Integriti delivered unrivalled lift control functionality.   Lift control was programmed based on resident credentials.

For example, if a resident’s apartment was located on floor 6, the lift would only authorise access to the reception area and their designated floor.

When entering the building and walking towards the lift, their smart access card would automatically be detected by Integriti and the correct lift would open; no buttons would need to be pressed inside the lift because Integriti’s intelligent technology would be pre-programmed to know where to stop. For added security, control staff received automatic alerts regarding any potential security breaches and using CCTV and interactive building schematics they could analyse any disturbances and incidents without leaving the control suite.

Access cards were also utilised to deliver smart building management. When a resident entered the building, the lights, heating or air conditioning within their apartment could be programmed automatically turn on and set to preferred settings, depending on the time of day.  Other functionality that the property developer decided to install was output sensors to identify potential flooding issues such as overflowing baths that may cause damage to other apartments.

Results

- Integriti delivered innovative security and smart building management appealing to the needs of the luxury buyer market

- Residents were assured security confidence and felt safe and secure within the building

Case Study: UK Hospital

Situation

A £35 million programme enabled a UK NHS hospital’s urgent care and trauma unit to be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility, allowing the hospital to enhance the patient journey and provide hospital staff with the ability to offer the best care to the 80,000 patients who pass through the emergency department each year.

Task

Construction of the new Accident & Emergency department presented a series of security issues for the hospital.  Firstly, the new facility required an additional 80 access controlled doors and extensions that would put significant strain on their existing system. Furthermore, with substantial site expansion planned over the next five years, the hospital would need scalability to increase access control from 450 to 1000 doors. The hospital was also concerned about how they could heighten security at the hospital if a terror attack or other serious incident occurred.  Their chosen system would need to deliver monitoring and control capabilities to ensure they could adequately protect patients, staff and visitors.

Case study: UK University

Task

A university in the UK sought an access control and intruder system that was easy to use and proven to accommodate the diverse access and security requirements of a further education environment. The chosen system would also need to integrate with the universities existing building management technologies including fire alarms, sprinklers, Microsoft Active Directory and cashless vending.

Furthermore, due to national security continuing to be on high alert, the university wanted to ensure that in the event of a terror attack or other serious event, their security system could increase protection for students and staff on campus by delivering superior remote monitoring capabilities and offering the ability to instantly lock down rooms, departments and buildings.
