Axis
Communications has received recognition from the Japanese Institute of Design
Promotion for its AXIS Q61-E PTZ Dome Network Camera Series. The cameras
feature a unique dome geometry allowing operators to identify objects as much
as 20° above the horizon.
Axis
Communications, the market leader in network video, has been honoured with the
prestigious Good Design Award 2015 for
its AXIS Q61-E PTZ Dome Network Camera Series. The Good Design Award, also
known as G Mark Award, from the Japanese Institute of Design Promotion is a
mark of excellence and gives recognition to innovative product design. It dates
back to 1957 as the sole comprehensive design evaluation and commendation
system in Japan.
The AXIS Q61-E Series
features a unique design concept which resulted from listening to customers and
partners. To better blend in with their environment when mounted, the cameras
are easily repaintable and 45% smaller than previous generations. Their unique
dome geometry enables operators to identify objects above the camera horizon
and the Speed Dry function causes the cameras to vibrate thereby effectively
shaking off water drops in rainy weather.
“With the AXIS Q61-E Series we have broken with conventional designs and
introduced an entirely new dome geometry offering effective video surveillance
of objects located above the camera horizon,” says Erik Frännlid, Director of
Product Management, Axis Communications. “We also took a look at nature and a
dog shaking off water inspired our Speed Dry function that quickly removes
water drops from the dome glass. This prestigious design award win underlines
our commitment to continuously innovate as we strive to provide our customers
with smarter solutions.”
The AXIS Q61-E Series features 30x optical zoom with up to HDTV 1080p
resolution, Lightfinder technology and Wide Dynamic Range to handle difficult
lighting conditions and electronic image stabilisation for smoother video in
windy conditions. A slanted camera design deflects water drops and a non-stick
heated silicone ring prevents ice formation to ensure reliable operation in all
weather conditions. The AXIS Q61-E Series cameras withstand extreme climate
changes thanks to Arctic Temperature Control that allows the cameras to
function at -50 °C (-58 °F). In addition, the cameras support automatic defog,
which, when activated, automatically detects fog in the scene and digitally
filters it out of view to provide clearer video.
The AXIS Q61-E Series was also awarded with the SSA Award 2015 in the category
CCTV at the Safety and Security Show last
week in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, due to its innovative way to manage
different lighting conditions as well as challenging weather conditions.

“ Being able to view the footage on our phones in real time and flick between the different cameras in the café is great. We can zoom in on different areas and slow down or speed up the playback.” Jaya Da Costa, Owner of the Pause Cat Café.
“The Axis cameras have proved exactly the right fit for London Underground here at Canary Wharf station. As we move to 24-hour operation on London Underground stations in a few months’ time, reliability and ease of maintenance are all key operational requirements. Axis cameras have met all these needs and I anticipate they will be deployed in other Jubilee Line extension stations as they are upgraded over the next few years.” Dave Perry, Delivery Manager, Station Capital Expenditure, London Underground.
“ Chester Zoo now has a video security platform which is highly reliable, expandable and future-proof. We know that whatever our requirement in terms of security intelligence, video analytics and integration, it’s now possible with our new IP video system. Speed and appropriateness of response to threats is now assured.” Nigel Peers, Security Manager, Chester Zoo.
“Observit offers a turnkey solution that gives you complete control of the entire process, from simple installation to monitoring of the cameras in each bus and the collection of image material. The entire process is covered in a highly functional and quality manner.” Bram Lauwers, Product Manager Digital Services at Nobina.
“Our analogue system was no longer as innovative as it once was; upgrading to HD IP camera technology made complete sense to us as we strive to maintain our status as the leading event facility in Northern Ireland.” Brian Hughes, Group Head of Facilities at The Odyssey Complex.
“Today the new system is only used if there is a security incident. But in the future we expect managers in specialist areas like visual merchandising to access cameras to assess whether agreed store layouts for new lines are being observed and whether these are working for store visitors.” Lee Bingham, Head of IT, Paul Smith.
“Wireless cameras on the front of the buildings have proven to be a huge asset. Following the initial installation, we noticed an individual attaching a scanner to the cash machine. We’d never had this additional vision before and therefore would not have identified this fraudulent activity prior to the installation.” Phil Parker, Venue Operations Manager at Twickenham Stadium.
